The hinged shutter is the original and still the most versatile. Panels open on concealed hinges to clear the window entirely, so you can throw the sash wide for airflow or cleaning without working around a fixed screen.
Closed, the blades tilt to direct light and set privacy exactly. Open, the panels fold back against the reveal and the window reads as framed joinery.
